►Moscow International festival of student theaters was founded by the Moscow State University’s theater in 1990 with the support of the Russian AITA center. In 2006 the Festival was revived by the Moscow Open Students’ Theater with support of the Government of Moscow and the Moscow State University of Lomonosov.
►Since 2006 the revived festival changed its name to “Students’ mask”. The opening ceremony was held on STD’s “Na Strastnom” theatre center stage. Members of the Government of Moscow, Chairman of the Theatrical figures of Russia Union Alexander Kaliagin, Chairman of the International AITA committee Mary Pears (Belgium) were present at the ceremony. The festival’s advisory council was headed by the vice-president of R. Bikov’s fund, Hounoured Artist of RSFR E.V. Sanaeva.
Periodicity of the Festival is once every two years.
► Moscow International Festival – is an international project in the field of youth culture. Its primary goal – is the joint development and straightening of humanistic ideals. The main target audience – young men, students, that are on the peak of active perception of existing ideas and generation of new ones. Modern young people are compelled to develop outlooks on life by themselves, to form their own philosophy. The Festival is meant to unite them with the universal language of art which is fluently spoken by people of different nationalities, religions, traditions and cultures.
► The student theatrical movement to date involves millions of young people worldwide. Nowadays student theatre is sort of an advertizing space in protection of traditional humanitarian values. Student theatre offers harmonious conditions for implementation of abilities and talents of every individual. A creatively gifted person, especially a young man or woman, must have the opportunity to develop his or her potential land it shouldn’t depend on the country of residence.
► The Moscow International Festival is not only a showcase of production, but also everything from live dialogue during the festival days, online broadcasting, discussion of performances, work of the young journalists and theatre critics club, workshops to “friendship evenings” – all that promotes mutual enrichment and a creative and life experience exchange, saved up by national cultures.
Moscow International Festival 2010
«This year’s festival is an original transitive experiment. We have decided to examine everything that will define next “Students’mask” festivals. Among the guests of the festival there are Russian, as well as foreign theater companies. At a choice of works special attention was given to research of nonconvencional forms of theatrical self-expression. Not only venerable theatrical critics, but also students of art journalism and TV and radio broadcasting departments of the Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov will take part in the festival. After each performance an interactive discussion with members of the audience will take place, where we will be glad to see young not indifferent people. Hopefully not only the atmosphere but also the reduced price will contribute to our goal”.
